Description :
FCAR (Fc alpha receptor) or CD89 is a single-pass type I transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily (IgSF). ICD89 contains two Ig-like C2-type domains in the extracellular region. CD89 binds to the Fc region of immunoglobulins alpha (IgA) and mediates several functions including cytokine production. CD89 associates with ITAMcontaining signaling subunit FcRγ (Ig epsilon receptor subunit gamma) to form a functional signaling complex. CD89 is present on the surface of myeloid lineage cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and eosinophils, where it mediates immunologic responses to pathogens. CD89 recognizes IgA-opsonized targets and triggers several immunologic defense processes, including phagocytosis, antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), and stimulation of the release of inflammatory mediators. There are multiple alternatively splicing variants encoding different isoforms of CD89.
